Our Patients Give Back

Geneva H.

I volunteer with the Capitol Hill United Neighborhoods (CHUN).
CHUN is a non-profit neighborhood organization covering a huge area of Central Denver from 1st Ave up to 22nd Ave, and Broadway all the way to Colorado Blvd. There are so many ways to participate and contribute. I’m a biking enthusiast, and I”m especially interested in sustainable and livable Transport Planning. I work with city officials and departments, non-profits, and businesses to identify and pursue shared goals. Volunteering gives me a connection to my community, and through all the friends I’ve made, has turned my house into a home.

Thank you Geneva, and Karma Up, Colorado!

Lisa R.

I started volunteering four years ago with the Literacy Program at Eiber Elementary School, through a partnership with my employer. I read one day a week to a third grade boy whom I’ve been able to stay with the whole time. I really enjoy seeing the growth he’s made over these years. I’m just glad to have a way to help. Volunteers can read, help with math, mentor students or help with homework after school.
For more information on the program, contact Shannon Deane, Volunteer Coordinator, Eiber Elementary. (303) 982-6405

Thank you, Lisa, and Karma Up, Colorado!

“I volunteer through my church. I go to see the home-bound each week. There is one couple I visit with each week, and also I help out Sister Ann, taking her out to go shopping. Volunteering makes me realize how fortunate and blessed I am, to be there for someone else. It also reminds me that I’m still in good shape here!”

Thank you, Helen,  and Karma up, Colorado!

I volunteer for the Denver Women’s Chorus, Rocky Mountain Arts Association (RMAA) and Spark! Discovery School PTO. I am president of the chorus, secretary of the board for RMAA and volunteer coordinator for the PTO. I help organize the chorus so women of all ages have a chance to sing and share that part of themselves. For the PTO, I kelp raise money for a new STEM pre-school (only two years old).

I have the time, skills and a deep desire to help people. Making people happy by giving my time is one of the best things in the world.

Thank you, Michelle, and Karma Up, Colorado!

“I volunteer as president at the Colorado Citizens for Canine Welfare, Inc. We are a non-profit working to end puppy mills. Dogs living in puppy mills suffer abuse and neglect and the puppies they produce are often ill and have genetic defects. Mills are causing pet overpopulation and extremely high rates of euthanasia.”

Thank you, Cheryl, and Karma Up, Colorado!

Lauren S.

I volunteer in hospice, sitting with patients during the last six months of their lives, providing companionship and care. This way, they aren’t alone and their families can take a break. At first, I was scared of death, worried about going into the medical ward. Volunteering with hospice has taught me a lot about life!

Thank you, Lauren, and Karma Up, Colorado!
